Don't pay too much. These things are like $50 brand new.
It's technically called a "bulbul tarang" or sometimes an "indian banjo." They generally have a bunch of strings, all tuned in unison, and then two or more sympathetic strings.
I recently bought one of these, ripped it apart and rebuilt it out of a heavier duty wood so I could affix pickups to it. There's details about that on the Null Device blog.
