Open Thread Monday

As you read this, I am likely hung over and flying home from the Kinetik Festival in Montreal. So feel free to post whatever you feel like (be nice). Are there any gear purchases you're looking forward to this year? Do you have an album to plug? Any questions or requests for topics you'd like to see covered here? Sound off!

Hey Tom,

this is my first post on your blog, but I read every day. A lot of the stuff you discuss is very helpful and inspiring when put to use while producing! So thank you!

Anyways, I have a topic request...
I was wondering how you would approach designing break downs or build ups while working on a track. I think it tends to be one of the most important parts of a good electronic dance track, but for me it's quite hard to do well.
My interest lie more from a breaks or dubstep angle, and less in the 'epic' realm of trance, etc. But perhaps a overall approach would be more appropriate?

Also, I have a few DJ mixes that I figure some people might be interested in checking out or sharing: http://intoner.org/downloads

thanks!

I finished an album in February for the RPM challenge. You can find it and my previous RPM albums at:

New album is "Overcast". It's a glitch Floyd dystopia.

Well,
I want to know how the festival went and how your band did.

Ideas for future blog subjects:

* More tips on live performing and touring (a multi-segment series on building an effective tour "bible" would be really nice)
* How to properly wire a studio (especially how to integrate audio mixers with computers)
* Logic uber alles- the more tips on this software the better.

Ditto on Elliot's request for breakdown ideas, though my music is more techno-industrial. So maybe something that covers a good bit of ground in that regard?

I just sound-proofed my new little studio for 200 bucks. With Auralex even. WTH?

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Auralex-Project-Studio-Kit-for-Room-Acoustics-104071105-i1429578.gcI'm pretty psyched at how cheap it was, so I thought I'd share.

I know there were both independent and signed bands who were booked to play, as well as many vendors for music and related paraphernalia
