Beatport Presents Depeche Mode Remix Contest

Beatport, in conjunction with Native Instruments and JazzMutant is sponsoring a remix contest for "Peace", the next single off of Depeche Mode's latest album, "Sounds of the Universe'. The winning remix will be released through Beatport and Mute Records. Additionally, the winner will walk away with a nifty pile of swag including a Native Instruments Maschine, a JazzMutant Lemur controller, a Pacemaker Portable DJ system, V-moda Headphones, and a $250 Beatport gift certificate. The one catch is that you do have to pay ($3.99) for the remix parts. Submissions will be accepted from May 12th and May 26th, and a winner will be announced on June 25th.

f you listen to the audio pieces that are available for the remix, you will hear that they are of a really low quality. I think this is more an advertisement-disguised-as-competition.. :(

haven;t heard them yet...

man i love the music to this song, but the whole "peeeeeeeeeeeeece will come to meeeee" lyric is so awful, and the way it;s sung.....aaaaaarrgh. c;mon mart. they should have just left that bit out and the song would have been better. i hate it when bands go all gospel sounding.

Low quality, perhaps. I had never used Beatport before, and what makes me mad is that you can download all 22 pieces in MP3 for $3.99, but if you want the WAV files, they charge over $20 extra as a "WAV Handling Fee". That is a rip off. Yes, it's more bandwidth, but that is an excessive fee which makes them look greedy. I got the MP3's cause I'd like to take a crack at the contest, but I doubt I'll use Beatport for anything.

Also, maybe I've been spoiled by Trent Reznor, who gives his multitracks away for free and in WAV, but who charges for this? Radiohead charged for the tracks in their contest too, but it seems more of a way to make money instead of a contest.

pay to do a remix?! no thanks. that's just greedy

"peeeeeeeeeeeeece will come to meeeee." I like it despite the seemingly self-indulgent lyric

gahan's falsetto note, cool! I can't think when he has ever done that before. anyone?

Yeah, I find the whole charging for remix parts a bit distasteful myself. Then again, to get your name listed in Depeche Mode's discography, even only in digital form, is something most people would probably not hesitate to pay a few bucks for.

It is extremely horrible that Beatport charges for the source files, and downright insane that they charge so much for the WAV versions. However, this isn't the first time they've done it, and I'm sure they'll get away with it again in the future.

What a scam.

Why would anyone even want to remix this track? The music is tolerable but, ostensibly, you're only using the vocal (as it's a remix), which is so gross.
