Now This is Genius...

A story on techdirt says that Gnarls Barkley member Dangermouse's troubles with EMI haven't ended and he is taking a rather unusual approach to fighting back. Dangermouse famously battled with EMI over his solo "Grey Album" which mashed-up elements from the Beatles' "White Album" and Jay-z's "Black Album".

Now the label won't allow him to realease his new album "Dark Night of the Soul". So, since we live in the age of internet leaks, Dangermouse will be selling blank CD-Rs with extensive artwork and encouraging his fans to go find it online, and download and burn their own copies.

I gotta say, it's a ballsy move, but if it works, it's a strong win for musicians not being bullied by their record companies.

That's got to be a calculated move by DM. Why would he associate himself with a label that gave him so much trouble for the Grey Album? A headline label dispute is good copy in the press. It's transparent and cynical.

Sorry but anyone that tries to pass off The Beatles + JZ as some kind of 'creative struggle' even in a mixtape is not doing anything heroic. Its like breaking into a museum to steal some Van Gogh and Picasso paintings and deciding you'd rip them up to make a paper mache bowl with macaroni noodle hearts on it. Its not gunna win any awards no matter how creative it is or sounds. So this whole 'I faught the label and won' crap really has no merit. If anything this guy does'nt even deserve a label..ever cause he keeps resampling stuff that isn't even his to begin with and wonders why a multimillion dollar company that can actually afford to be sued does'nt just up and print whatever junk he throws together next. Contract or not hes probably being bullied but he deserves to get his hat and coat taken and left on the playground drying his tears.

If we talking about 'colors' of CDs don't need to forget about fifth the same named Metallica's album, also known as "Black Album". BTW, it's my favorite
