What Does a $5,000 Drum Machine Sound Like?

Meet the Drum Buddy, the creation of a New Orleans-based musician going by the name of Quintron. What makes it unique is that the drum sounds are triggered by light. I'm not sure the sounds it produces are all that useful (especially for the asking price), but apparently he has sold 44 of them, so hats off to him!

Man... I could think of a lot better things to blow $5000 on. However I'm sure there is a market for over-priced boutique music equipment that looks like it came from Toys R Us. ;)

Hmm, was cool how he used it as a filter on that Casio keyboard, but TBH $5k? Nah, not a chance.

it sounds reminiscent of Metasonix gear. maybe that's part of why it's expensive? (Metasonix = vacuum tube analog synths)
