Free Music from Orbital
In case you hadn't heard, Orbital are off their hiatus and hard at work on new material with European live dates coming in April. In the meantime, the above is a new track they're giving away for free. Wait until it kicks in about halfway through... amazing!
Orbital is one of my best concert memories ever. My band was playing the Arvika festival in Sweden and shared a van ride with them from the airport. Very nice, down to earth guys. The show itself was one of those wonderful bits of synchronicity between music and environment. Arvika is far enough north that in the summer, the sun only goes down for about 2 hours. They started their set in the dark, and as their set ended, the sun came up again. I'll never forget that show as long as I live.

Propellerheads Releases Recycle 2.2
Propellerheads has released version 2.2 of it's classic loop-slicing software Recycle. The new version includes a redesigned interface, new key commands, an Online help system, OSX Lion compatibility, and more. The upgrade is free to existing Recycle 2 users, or for $249 new (really, Propllerheads? Don't you think it's time for a price drop on a piece of software that has been around since 1994?!)

10 Classic Reel-to-Reel Decks
It is perhaps inevitable that as soon as the technology develops to produce pristine, uncolored recordings, that the recording methods of yesteryear see a surge in popularity among those looking to add that special "it" that recording on older formats can bring. With that in mind, here is a great article from Oobject profiling 10 reel-to-reel tape recorders that many consider to be classics.

John Cage Performs on Amplified Plants
In light of the clip I posted yesterday of Diego Stocco "playing" a dinner plate, here's a classic clip of the legendary John Cage performing a piece on amplified cactus and plants.
"John Cage performing on Nam June Paik's TV special called 'Good Morning Mr. Orwell' from 1984. In the beginning, we see that Cage is joined by Takehisa Kosugi and one other unidentified person. perhaps they were performing a composition or improvisation that they would have done during a Merce Cunningham dance. there is also a cut away to a Joseph Bueys piano performance art piece."
