Today's free sample selection consists of 22 drum sounds sourced from a Yamaha CS1x and pumped up with some parallel compression using Audio Damage's wonderful free Rough Rider. All samples are mono, 24-bit WAV files. approximately 1.4MB download size.

There is even an included delay complete with built in step sequencer that TEMPO SYNCS to your host...you're welcome :). Overall It's a great library for creating tensions.

London's Burning
As some of you have probably heard, one of the countless businesses destroyed by the recent riots in London this week was PIAS, the legendary European distributor. Dozens of indies labels lost massive amounts of stock in the fire, an especially cruel twist of fate given the difficulties the music industry at large has suffered recently. But not all hope is lost. Some people have organized charities to help the labels recover, but how do you know who's legit? Peter Kirn ran this interesting article and interview yesterday that's worth looking into if you want to help.

Free Guitar Harmonics Ableton Live Rack from AfroDJMac
I haven't been keeping up with every single Live Rack Mr. AfroDJMac has released, but I've always been a sucker for the sound of guitar harmonics, so, as you might have guessed, his latest free release provides just that. Here's what he says:"This weeks rack was created by sampling the harmonics produced by each string at the 5th, 7th, and 12th fret. The instrument comes set up with a macro knob that allows you to switch between the different samples, each of which has its own unique character. This allows for some cool effects, such as holding the sustain pedal and changing the sample while you play, which creates an interesting morphing timbre.
There’s a macro knob that reverses the samples, creating a swelling, somewhat glitchy sound, not unlike those from some of my favorite psychedelic Beatles tracks (or my 3rd Ableton Live Rack: Reversed Piano”). I’ve also been experimenting with the Grain Delay plug-in more and more these days, and there are some macro knobs to control that effect.

Logic's Pedalboard: Not Just for Guitars
One of the new plug-ins that showed up in the last major revision of Logic was Pedalboard. For some strange reason, it seems as if it hardly ever gets a mention, and that's a shame, as it's really a very fun sound design tool.Sure, it was made with guitars in mind, but it is equally great for mangling your synths, drums, vocals, or whatever else you care to throw at it. I've long been a proponent of guitar stomp boxes as a source of unique sounds, and pedalboard gives you a virtual array of these which can be arranged in any combination and order you like. Distortion, fuzz, ring modulation, wah filters, chorus, phaser, flanger... you name it, if it's a type of stomp box, you're likely to find it available here. When you take into account these particular effects combos only take up a single insert and that you can apply as many further plug-ins as your processor can handle, you can see how powerful the possibilities are.
So the next time you're looking for a way to add a unique touch to your synths, don't pass over stuff like Pedalboard just because it was made for guitars. The results might surprise you.
Sinevibes Releases Turbulence
Sinevibes has released Turbulence, their latest AU plug-in for OS X. Turbulence combines 6 different waveshapers with an up to 32 step sequencer allowing unusual, rhythmic waveshaping to be applied to whatever source material you see fit. The result is harsh, gritty, and infectious, sounding not unlike FM synthesis at its most complex and aggressive. Turbulence requires Mac OS 10.5 or greater and an AU host.
