10 Handy Programming Tips for ReFX Vanguard

If you haven't checked it out yet, head on over to the Programming Tips section of the Waveformless-Soundware site for 10 random programming tips on programming your own sounds for ReFX Vanguard.

The plan is to post programming tips for different softsynths as I release new soundsets. And yes, I am hard at work on the next release. No idea when it will be done. I'd rather get it right then get it out right now.

Note that if you're a total noob and don't know an LFO from an Envelope, you can start by reading my Synthesis Made Simple series which should help you get up to speed.

Incidentally, you can click on the image above and copy the settings manually if you want to hear year another sound from the soundset. You'll be out of luck with the LFO 1 and 2 settings, but this will get you most of the way there. You can also check out the demos below if you haven't already to hear the sounds in a musical context. Here are some audio demos I threw together for my new bank of 128 Vanguard presets available for just $9.99 via Waveformless Soundware. All sounds except drums are from the bank, and no external effects save for a little compression and EQ here and there to keep the mix clean were used. Enjoy!

Announcing Waveformless Soundware

Remember at the beginning of the year when I hinted that there was an expansion of the Waveformless "empire"? Well, I am happy to announce that expansion in the form of Waveformless Soundware, a website aimed at providing high quality presets for popular softsynths at extremely reasonable prices.

Our first product is Vanguard Phoenix, a bank of 128 new sounds that will breathe new life into reFX's venerable Vanguard synth. My goal with this sound set was to push the limits of what can be done with Vanguard and bring it in new directions. The sounds cover all the expected categories and come as both a full bank (.fxb format), and as individual presets (.fxp format), along with helpful documentation to get you started. I hope to get an audio demo up in the next couple of days, but until then, you can download ten absolutely free sample sounds in the "Free Stuff" section.

The website also includes a Programming Tips section that will offer up tutorials on getting more out of your softsynths so you can get started making your own sounds, too.
