A "Real World" TR-808?

MR-808 - mechanic drum robot from Sonic Robots on Vimeo.

"Let's get physical: MR-808 is the first drum robot that reproduces the drum sounds of the 80s - in the real world.
The robot installation MR-808 is a replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808 – with robots playing the drum sounds! I (Moritz Simon Geist) have been playing electronic music for several years now, and at some place I was bored of the electronic music production process. With binary logic, everything is possible.
So I decided to go back to the roots of sound generation – the physical sound generation – but combine it with the electronic music structure we like so much.
I liked the idea so much, that I couldn’t stop building my own drum robots, and ended up replacing all the electronic sounds of a whole drum computer, placed in a 3,3 x 1,7m² case. I am very proud to present the “MR-808” – a mechanic replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808!

Amazing Homemade Giant Xylophone in Japanese TV Commercial

A friend forwarded this video to me of a commercial the Japanese company DOCOMO made for a limited edition cell phone with a wooden body. In it, they've created a giant ramp through a wooded hill that acts as a giant xylophone playing Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" when a wooden ball is rolled downwards. Amazing!

Guy Builds a Minimoog from Scratch

At least that appears to be what's going on. There isn't much explanation on the guy's page, but lots of pictures and a handful of YouTube videos demonstrating it. Anyone know more about this?

Cool Homemade Poly Synth

I must've missed when it was first posted a couple of weeks ago on Vintage Synth Explorer, so apologies if this already made the rounds, but this a home made poly synth made by someone in Poland who is much smarter than you and I.

Features include:

"- 5 voices
- 2xVCO per voice
- 3xEG per voice (hardwired to pitch, cutoff and volume)
- 3xLFO (pitch, cutoff and PWM)
- Moog ladder VCF
- Noise source
- Ring Modulator
- Patch memory (128 user patches)
- MIDI
- Mono mode with selectable note priority (High/Low) and triggering (single/multi) and with portamento
- unison with adjustable detuning
VCO A offers sawtooth, square and triangle. VCO B offers sawtooth and square waves. Having triangle wave available is essential if you want to obtain some nice fm-like sounds from RingMod.

It's built using only standard off-the-shelf components - no CEM or SSM or similar chips inside - only typical opamps, switches, transistors etc.

Case (together with keyboard) was salvaged from some crappy 70's combo organ."
