Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft *palm to face*

It's crap like this and the ridiculous SongSmith promos from a while back that is the reason they portray the PC as a pasty, chubby nerd on those Mac commercials everyone hates so much. Seriously, THIS is your marketing strategy?! Isn't Microsoft one of the biggest companies in the world? So why does this look like something from QVC?

  1. This video is laughably unrealistic. As if that many women would show up to a Windows launch party.

  2. Engadget posted a link to this remix of the Host Your Party video, and it is delightful.

  3. Microsoft sells more copies of Windows to computer manufacturers than directly to consumers (mostly upgrades). They don't need marketing campaignes like this, the consumers will accept the (cheeper) Windows machines anyway. This commercial is quite ridiculous indeed, or is it a joke?

  6. I'm currently scratching out my own eyeballs watching this. It's utterly horrible!

For Windows-related goodness, everybody should watch this awesome video instead:

  7. Wow! Isn't it amazing what can be achieved with CGI these days! I almost believed that they were real people! Still, they have given me some handy pointers for my next software launch shindig...thanks Microsoft!

  8. Tom, you mentioned the money Microsoft has to spend to make a good commercial, but can you believe they hired a company that lit the set so poorly? Look at the shadows! The script must have been written by a developer/software engineer. I think I'll probably just host a Vista wake when 7 comes out.

  9. Why are they talking about a party? What party!?! This doesn't even make sense to me. These people look less interested than the people in the Magic Bullet commercials. Yeah, it's stuff like this that give credence to the opinion of Microsoft and their products, that and their products are old news.

  12. Let's see, someone representing the youthful computer savvy , the elderly, the middle American, and the "minority" demographics. Very clever marketing folks. Bravo!

Guess what, when I set food out near my computer that means I'm hungry, not upgrading Firefox.

And was I the only sleep deprived mind who concluded that everything the old woman said from 4:38 to 5:11 was smothered in innuendo?

    -Tired and sick

  13. @Tom are you seriously telling me your parties don't wrap up with a great resource for answering any unanswered questions? Killjoy!

  14. Matt - If anything, my parties leave far more questions at the end of the night. haha

  15. I saw this months ago and it pretty much contributed to a roflstorm. All thats left is buying out Anteras and this do-hickey is pro studio material.
